Another week has passed, and your kiddos continue building their confidence in navigating the swamp. We are celebrating an end to our assessments at the beginning of the year and gearing up for upcoming events. Each day, we deepen our understanding of what it means to have a growth mindset and the importance of growth in general. Of course, part of any growth includes mistakes, and we are learning to embrace the idea that mistakes are proof that learning is happening. With growth also come successes, and we will celebrate those too! When discussing success, we remind our students that it will look different for everyone, but we will highlight their accomplishments as they happen. Our hope is that their mistakes, growth, and success lead to increased confidence for their time in 5th-grade and when they begin their middle school journey. As teachers, we strive to be an extension of the support our students receive from you all, their parents, to provide a level of comfort that makes learning better. We are grateful for the opportunity to share in the growth of your kiddos, and we look forward to a fantastic year!

If you were unable to attend the Camp El Tesoro Informational Meeting, we have put all of the information we shared below, which includes a slideshow and a packet. The actual packet was sent home with your child today (Friday) if you didn't attend last night. At the back of the packet are important health forms and permission slips that must be filled out. Let us know if you have any questions!
Thank you to everyone who applied to chaperone our 5th trip to Camp El Tesoro. All chaperones will be notified of their application status next Friday, September 13th.
We sincerely wish we could take everyone who applied, but it just isn't possible. Thank you for understanding!
From our principal, Dr. Griffin:
Our community has always supported our school in so many ways, for which we are very grateful. One of the traditions that has long been in place is our annual Greenback giving campaign, which we use to supplement the budget provided by the district.
Many years ago, Glenhope parents stated their preference for an opportunity to donate rather than having students participate in fundraisers. That has continued to be our practice, and we have been able to supplement classroom and building requests through our community’s generosity. There is now an option for you to donate by using a credit card through the district’s RevTrack system.
Gifts made to Glenhope should be tax deductible (per IRS tax code section 170), but you will want to confirm with your tax advisor. We will furnish a form acknowledging your contribution. Some corporations match donations, so I would encourage you to investigate that possibility as well. We received an estimated additional $4,000 - 5,000 last year from matching corporate donations.
We understand that students sometimes have appointments during the school day. We've had a few parents ask what is the best time based on our schedule, so we thought we would share with you all:
10:45 - 1:00 would be perfect for students to be pulled for appointments. We are doing targeted small group lessons, specials, recess, and lunch during this time.
From 7:45 - 10:45 each morning and 1:00 - dismissal, students will miss class time if they are pulled (which we know is sometimes unavoidable)
Students have been working in Canvas and seem to be improving in their navigation skills and in terms of checking and submitting assignments.
We suggest you do the pairing feature in Canvas, which allows you to "observe" your child's classes to see their daily lessons and assignments and allows you to see what they have or have not turned in. We have placed a link below that will show you how to become an "observer" in your child's Canvas account.

Take a look at the video below that discusses the importance of your "ordinary" thoughts or ideas. It is such a great lesson on grit and a growth mindset for our kids!
This year, the district is celebrating our students and staff every #WeAreGCISD Wednesday! Through posts, they will showcase how the district is working ‘Together for Tomorrow.’ Be sure to check in each week to learn more about what #WeAreGCISD means to our students and employees.
