Dear Parents,
We've had a wonderful week in 2nd grade! Please remember to have your child bring Valentines to share with classmates by February 12th. They can also bring little toys or candy treats, but please no nuts. Also, if you have any extra Valentine’s themed stickers that you’re willing to donate, please have your child bring them in by Monday, February 10th! We will use these to decorate our bags. Lastly, our class Valentine Parties are on Thursday, February 13th from 1-2. You are welcome to attend! Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Bell and Ms. Herrera
Request for LEGO Donations for LEGO Club
We are looking to enhance our LEGO Club by incorporating LEGO bricks into our lessons and activities for kindergarten through second grade.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating any unused or unwanted LEGO sets or pieces that you may have at home. These donations will be used primarily for STEM challenges. No contribution is too small, and any LEGO pieces—whether large or small, complete or partial—would be incredibly helpful.
If you have any LEGO pieces you’re willing to part with, please send them in with your child or feel free to drop them off in the foyer with Lego Club or Mrs. Griffard labeled on them. If you have any questions or would like more details, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity. We’re excited to see the creativity and learning that will come from this project!
Language Arts: Grammar & Conventions and Author Study
I can improve my professionalism as a writer by learning and practicing grammar, spelling, and writing convention skills.
I can gather information about an author by examining her books and making predictions and inferences about how her life story influences her writing.
I can identify important story elements including the problem, solution, and theme/main idea.
I can make inferences about character traits, motivations, and feelings.
Math: Financial Literacy and Time
I can read and write time to the nearest one-minute increment using analog and digital clocks and distinguish between A.M. and P.M.
Science: Weather and the Sky
I can describe the sun as a star that provides light and heat and explain that the moon reflects the sun's light.
I can observe objects in the sky using tools to compare how objects in the sky are more visible and can appear different with a tool than with the unaided eye.
Social Studies: United States Landmarks and State and National Symbols
I can identify state and national symbols (such as the national bird/flower) and patriotic symbols such as the U.S. and Texas Flags and Uncle Sam.
I can identify how selected customs, symbols, and celebrations reflect an American love of individualism, inventiveness, and freedom.
I can identify and explain the significance of various community, state, and national landmarks such as monuments and government buildings.

Classroom teachers are limited in what snacks they can provide here at school to students. Due to the various allergies on campus, teachers can have Veggie Straws or Skinny Pop (both regular flavor) as classroom snacks.
Most students bring their own snacks daily, but occasionally some forget, which is why we have some on hand. As you can imagine, we can tend to run out of snacks if we have a week where lots of kiddos have forgotten to bring a snack. We would appreciate anyone who is able to send in snack-sized bags of Veggie Straws (sea salt) or Skinny Pop. Thank you!
We have the most INCREDIBLE PTA here at Glenhope. Please check out their website to learn more!
As a reminder, we have two snack times during the day. Please be sure to send nut-free (NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS) snacks.
Thank you for keeping everyone safe!
Please make sure your child comes to school prepared each day with a charged ipad. Please write names on lunch boxes, water bottles, ipad chargers, and head phones.
Please make sure you complete the District Background Check every year. Forms must be completed and approved before you will be allowed to volunteer at the school or on field trips.
We'll keep this section in here for a while as we find it to be an important one!
We would like to provide additional support at school if your family is experiencing difficulties at home.
If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend please email me with the words "Handle with Care." Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or support during the day.
Most Fridays we will go to the school library in the morning. 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, and should bring books back to check out new ones on Fridays as they finish books.
Thanks for your help in making sure books come back each Friday. Better yet, make a habit of storing the library books in your child's backpack so they are always there!
