Dear Parents,
It was a great week in 2nd ASPIRE! We have lots of important events coming up in the next couple of weeks, so buckle up and keep reading!
Recent Frequently Asked Questions
We wanted to address a question that has come up recently regarding what parents need to do if they want to eat lunch with their child. First off, there is not a Sign Up Form that needs to be filled out (other campuses have this, but as of now Glenhope does not). Second grade lunch begins at 11:15, so all you need to do is arrive before 11:15 and sign in and get your badge. Parents and their child can sit at the tables at the back of the cafeteria and enjoy lunch together. They cannot bring a friend to sit with them. After lunch, please have your child re-join their class at our table in the cafeteria before being dismissed to recess.
Another question is regarding whether or not the behavior calendar needs to be initialed. We've discussed this and decided that we would prefer that parents initial the calendar each day so we can ensure that you're seeing any notes. Thank you for being willing to collaborate with us on this.
We also wanted to link the Parent Information Night presentation one more time in case you still need to look over it: 2nd ASPIRE Curriculum Night Presentation. Please let us know if you have any questions!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support at home!

Our class will be celebrating International Dot Day on Friday, September 13th! We will have exciting activities that will stretch your child's creativity and encourage them to "Make Their Mark" on the word using their individual strengths and unique abilities! If your child would like to wear an outfit with polka dots or circles, they are welcome to!
Picture day is Monday, September 16th. These are the pictures that are in the yearbook so please send your child to school in clothes you would be okay with in the yearbook!
Take a look at the video below that discusses the importance of your "ordinary" thoughts or ideas. It is such a great lesson on grit and a growth mindset for our kids!
TAGT Parent Webinar: 6:30 p.m. | September 10, 2024
Being the parent of a gifted child comes with its own set of unique challenges. Gifted children often possess incredible intellect and potential, but sometimes struggle with their executive function skills - the ability to plan, organize, manage time, and complete tasks effectively. Understanding and nurturing these essential skills is crucial not only for unlocking their full potential and setting them up for success, but also for ensuring mental health and well-being. This transformative hour-long webinar is specifically designed to empower parents with the knowledge and skills needed to better understand and help their gifted children develop and enhance their executive function abilities. Led by Dr. Erika Lucas and supported by current research, this webinar is a valuable resource for any parent seeking to navigate the intricacies of their gifted child's executive function. We have the most INCREDIBLE PTA here at Glenhope. Please check out their website to learn more!
From our principal, Dr. Griffin:
Our community has always supported our school in so many ways, for which we are very grateful. One of the traditions that has long been in place is our annual Greenback giving campaign, which we use to supplement the budget provided by the district.
Many years ago, Glenhope parents stated their preference for an opportunity to donate rather than having students participate in fundraisers. That has continued to be our practice, and we have been able to supplement classroom and building requests through our community’s generosity. There is now an option for you to donate by using a credit card through the district’s RevTrack system.
Gifts made to Glenhope should be tax deductible (per IRS tax code section 170), but you will want to confirm with your tax advisor. We will furnish a form acknowledging your contribution. Some corporations match donations, so I would encourage you to investigate that possibility as well. We received an estimated additional $4,000 - 5,000 last year from matching corporate donations.
As a reminder, we have two snack times during the day. Please be sure to send nut-free (NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS) snacks.
Thank you for keeping everyone safe!
Please make sure your child comes to school prepared each day with a charged ipad. Please write names on lunch boxes, water bottles, ipad chargers, and head phones.
Please make sure you complete the District Background Check every year. Forms must be completed and approved before you will be allowed to volunteer at the school or on field trips.
We'll keep this section in here for a while as we find it to be an important one!
We would like to provide additional support at school if your family is experiencing difficulties at home.
If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend please email me with the words "Handle with Care." Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or support during the day.
Most Fridays we will go to the school library in the morning. 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, and should bring books back to check out new ones on Fridays as they finish books.
Thanks for your help in making sure books come back each Friday. Better yet, make a habit of storing the library books in your child's backpack so they are always there!
