Students have been working in Canvas and seem to be improving in their navigation skills and in terms of checking and submitting assignments.
We suggest you do the pairing feature in Canvas, which allows you to "observe" your child's classes to see their daily lessons and assignments and allows you to see what they have or have not turned in. We have placed a link below that will show you how to become an "observer" in your child's Canvas account.

Students were all given a yellow calendar to record their weekly reading. The goal is for students to be reading around 75 minutes per week. Students should log how many minutes they read daily and parents will initial over the weekend (or whenever you have time). Calendars will be checked on Monday each week.
Next Week:
Reading: I can ask and answer questions about an informational text.
I can identify and explain the text structure of an information text.
I can identify and explain the meaning of figurative language in an informational text.
Writing: Informational Writing: I can research and gather information about a specific topic and write an informational writing piece using details and facts.
*The weekly spelling and vocabulary will be practiced in class, but students will not be tested on the words.
Grammar: I can correctly capitalize proper nouns and titles.

Next Week: We will continue exploring how to represent the value of decimal numbers, using expanded notation, identify and represent decimals as distances from zero on a number line, and compare and name decimals on a number line.
Texas Standards Covered:
4.2B. Represent the value of the digit in whole numbers through 1,000,000,000 and decimals to the hundredths using expanded notation and numerals. 4.2H Determine the corresponding decimal to the tenths or hundredths place of a specified point on a number line. 4.2F Compare and order decimals using concrete and visual models to the hundredths.
This Week : We classified matter based on its magnetism. We tested the magnetism of multiple objects in an experiment and discovered what types of materials have magnetic properties. We discussed real-life application of magnets and researched ways that magnets influence and improve our lives.
Next Week : We will begin our next chapter, Mixtures and Solutions. Starting with mixtures, students will conduct an experiment on different materials and their ability to be separated from each other. They will research different mixtures and what they are made of. Vocabulary words to introduce will be "mixtures, solutions, dissolve, filter, and separate".
This Week : We concluded our Unit 1 - Geography of Texas with our week 4 newspaper "Texas Locations : Then and Now". We compared life for Texas's first settlers to how we live now and discussed how we arrived at our lifestyle today.
Next Week : We will begin Unit 2 - American Indian Life in Texas. We will learn about different tribes of Native Americans, how they lived, what they experienced, and compare tribal lifestyles and their lives to ours today.
