Dear 3rd Grade Parents,
3rd grade is responsible for putting together 2 themed baskets to be auctioned off at the upcoming PTA Fall Festival. The 3rd grade basket themes are football watching party and Spa-tacular. Brittany Brown, our Grade Level Coordinator, is collecting items for these baskets.
Here is a link to the Item Wishlist for our 2 grade level baskets:
Please email 3rdcoordinator@glenhopepta.org if you have any questions.
Picture day is Monday, September 16th. These are the pictures that are in the yearbook so please send your child to school in clothes you would be okay with in the yearbook!
From our principal, Dr. Griffin:
Our community has always supported our school in so many ways, for which we are very grateful. One of the traditions that has long been in place is our annual Greenback giving campaign, which we use to supplement the budget provided by the district.
Many years ago, Glenhope parents stated their preference for an opportunity to donate rather than having students participate in fundraisers. That has continued to be our practice, and we have been able to supplement classroom and building requests through our community’s generosity. There is now an option for you to donate by using a credit card through the district’s RevTrack system.
Gifts made to Glenhope should be tax deductible (per IRS tax code section 170), but you will want to confirm with your tax advisor. We will furnish a form acknowledging your contribution. Some corporations match donations, so I would encourage you to investigate that possibility as well. We received an estimated additional $4,000 - 5,000 last year from matching corporate donations.
We have entered Module 2 of HMH. This week we will start reading and responding to poetry.
Students will identify and explain elements of poetry, including structure and rhyme scheme.
Students will read poetry fluently.
Students will write a response that demonstrates understanding of the text.
We are beginning our second unit, focusing on addition and subtraction of whole numbers within 1,000.
This week students will work on representing addition and subtraction problems using models such as strip diagrams and number lines.
Students will demonstrate that materials can be combined based on their physical properties to create or modify objects and justify the selection of materials based on their physical properties. TEkS 3.6D
Next Friday We will take our first Unit Test about Matter and Energy. Students need to know that matter has measurable physical properties that determine how matter is identified, classified, changed, and used. We will review for the test on Wednesday and Thursday.
Students can identify groups and individuals who contributed to the founding and building of the United States. I can recognize our country’s Founding Fathers, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Patrick Henry, John Adams, John Hancock, and James Madison.
Sept. 17th is Constitution Day-We will be talking about how the Founding Fathers help create the Constitution that we use today.
