Thank you to everyone who made it to our Parent Information Night last night. If you were unable to be there, your child should have brought home a "Parent Guide" today with all of the information. If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher for a time to visit.
This week we completed our new assessments in i-Ready. It is an adaptive tool that measures student performance in both math and reading to establish a baseline. Subsequent lessons are individualized practice based on the diagnostic performance.

For the Next few weeks first graders will working on addition and subtraction to 20. We will be teaching various strategies for solving for an unknown in any position. We will be solving and writing story problems as well as playing games to help students with fluency and problem solving. Our unit in social studies around community continues, and next week we are on Module 1, Week 3 of HMH for language arts/reading.
Remember to return the All About me tee next week. It does not have to be fancy.
Language Arts: I can spell words using sound-spelling patterns. I can read high frequency words. I can build my reading stamina. I can write narrative stories about my own life.
Math: I can represent addition or subtraction word problems up to 10 by using appropriate strategies such as concrete objects, pictorial models, and number sentences.
Science: I can explain how science or an innovation help others.
Social Studies: I can explain that a community is a group of people who live and learn in the same place.
