While we cannot believe it is already December, we love how much growth we have seen in your students so far! Encourage them to keep working hard every day to finish 2024 successfully!
A trend we are noticing in our 2nd graders is that as a whole, they struggle to problem solve when work or assignments are challenging. We get it. If something is hard (or perceived to be hard) they immediately seek us out to help, and we are definitely happy to help and guide them along. However, we really want them trying to problem solve on their own or with each other before they come to us. We often ask questions like, "What is something that you can do on your own?", "What specifically do you not understand." or "Is there someone in the room who has been successful that you could ask for help?". We want students to be able to verbally share what they have tried, where they are stuck and what they might need to be successful. To help us at school, we encourage you to also have students problem solve independently before jumping in to help them. Ask them, "What have you already tried? What could we try together next?". In Mrs. Sifford's class, we call this "sitting in the stuck". Second grade is a HUGE transition year in elementary school. We want them to have the best tools in their tool belts to support them in the future and training our brains to have a growth mindset is the best way to do that. Thank you for partnering with us on this goal.

A green note when home with your children in their Take Home Folders this week. This is simply to let you know that we understand that the mornings can sometimes be a challenge for students. Sometimes they are anxious or sad about something at home. Sometimes their allergies are giving them trouble. Sometimes they simply are exhausted and need a little extra love and hugs from us. We get it and want to best support your child. If you find that your child is having one of these mornings, please just send us an email and all that you need to say is "Handle with care". We will get the message and be sure to give your child extra support and understanding that day.
Our planning time is from 2:15 - 3:00pm each day.
