Can you believe Spring Break is almost here? We can't either! This week has been a fun week filled with research of different animals in ALL subjects. We have learned how to research, how to use multiple sources to find information and how to synthesize that information all together to create a product. They have used this information to practice nonfiction text features while learning about penguins in Reading, learning the basic needs of animals and how their adaptations help them survive in Science, used 2D polygon shapes to create their animals in their habitats and practiced their writing skills in all subjects. It's been a fun week! Make sure you ask your students about all that they have learned!

We will be reading Fiction stories about the penguins we studied this week! Tacky the Penguin is a fun series of books about a group of penguins and the silly things that happen to them. To celebrate, on Friday, March 7th, students can dress up like TACKY the penguin. I've included a picture to help! Tacky wears hawaiian shirts, mismatched prints and bowties! Let's have fun! (Optional of course!)

Students will summarize a text using the logical order and detail.
Students will synthesize information from a variety of fiction stories.
Students will respond to a text using text evidence and supporting ideas.
Students will use correct grammar and spelling rules in their writing.
Students will revise and edit their drafts before creating a final copy.
Math:
Students will classify and sort 3D shapes based on their attributes.
Students will compose 3D shapes using 2D polygons.
Students will classify and sort 2D polygons will less than 12 sides by their attributes.
Science/ Social Studies:
Students will learn about different adaptations in animals to help them survive.
Students will record and compare how the structures of animals help them take in food, water and air to survive.
Request for LEGO Donations for LEGO Club
We are looking to enhance our LEGO Club by incorporating LEGO bricks into our lessons and activities for kindergarten through second grade.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating any unused or unwanted LEGO sets or pieces that you may have at home. These donations will be used primarily for STEM challenges. No contribution is too small, and any LEGO pieces—whether large or small, complete or partial—would be incredibly helpful.
If you have any LEGO pieces you’re willing to part with, please send them in with your child or feel free to drop them off in the foyer with Lego Club or Mrs. Griffard labeled on them. If you have any questions or would like more details, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Please pack one NUT FREE snack for your child every day in their backpacks. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide snacks for the class.
Teachers are allowed to have pre-packaged Veggie Straws or Skinny Pop (original flavors) on hand for students who may forget. If you are able, and would like to provide any to your homeroom teachers, we would be very appreciative.

Handle With Care
Handle With Care
A green note when home with your children in their Take Home Folders this week. This is simply to let you know that we understand that the mornings can sometimes be a challenge for students. Sometimes they are anxious or sad about something at home. Sometimes their allergies are giving them trouble. Sometimes they simply are exhausted and need a little extra love and hugs from us. We get it and want to best support your child. If you find that your child is having one of these mornings, please just send us an email and all that you need to say is "Handle with care". We will get the message and be sure to give your child extra support and understanding that day.
Please remind your students that toys must stay at home. Toys, lip gloss, stuffies, and trading cards are not allowed at school, unless otherwise specified by teachers. Thank you!
