Next Week: We will continue our STAAR Rockin' Review.
Math STAAR on April 29th.
Help from home: practice multiplication (two-digit x two-digit) and division (three-digit divided by one-digit) equations.
This Week : We read about the properties medical scientists use to engineer artificial skin for people with amputations or severe burns. This is a process that uses electricity and circuits to help the person be able to sense touch and feel warmth, even after they have lost essential nerve endings. We related this to our unit on circuits by exploring the conductors and insulators scientists use to make their inventions work.
Next Week : We will explore contact forces (friction) and how they act on objects in motion. This will be related to ice skating, swimming, and sports like golf and soccer.
This Week : We learned about citizens rights and responsibilities including voting, serving on a jury, and civil rights. We talked about how to stay informed on important issues, and conflict resolution within the government.
Next Week : We will conduct a mini-research project on an important Texan. Then students will present their research about their Texan. These will include Sam Houston, Clara Driscoll, Henry B Gonzalez, AdinaDe Zavala, Wallace Jefferson, Ann Richards, Lorenzo De Zavala, and Barbara Jordan.
Your students homework was due this week! This was a one page assignment for students to interview a person about the responsibilities of citizenship. They asked questions about voting, running for office, staying informed on current issues, and serving on a jury. This assignment was sent home MONDAY and was due THURSDAY. If your student did not complete/turn in this assignment, they may do so next week, but I will be taking off 5 points for every day it is late.
Thank you to everyone who has sent in supplies! These are a few items we could still use more of in the classrooms to make it through the rest of the year. Thank you!
Pencils
Eraser Caps
Mints for STAAR testing
Please note our STAAR testing dates below. On testing days, Glenhope is closed to visitors so please keep that in mind. Additionally, we would appreciate you not scheduling any appointments on these days, as students will have to miss class time during the testing window to make up the STAAR testing they missed. If they miss a STAAR exam, they will have to spend an entire day of school when they return to make that test up.
