Dear 3rd Grade Parents,
3rd grade is responsible for putting together 2 themed baskets to be auctioned off at the upcoming PTA Fall Festival. The 3rd grade basket themes are football watching party and Spa-tacular. Brittany Brown, our Grade Level Coordinator, is collecting items for these baskets.
Here is a link to the Item Wishlist for our 2 grade level baskets:
Please email 3rdcoordinator@glenhopepta.org if you have any questions.
Picture day is Monday, September 16th. These are the pictures that are in the yearbook so please send your child to school in clothes you would be okay with in the yearbook!
From our principal, Dr. Griffin:
Our community has always supported our school in so many ways, for which we are very grateful. One of the traditions that has long been in place is our annual Greenback giving campaign, which we use to supplement the budget provided by the district.
Many years ago, Glenhope parents stated their preference for an opportunity to donate rather than having students participate in fundraisers. That has continued to be our practice, and we have been able to supplement classroom and building requests through our community’s generosity. There is now an option for you to donate by using a credit card through the district’s RevTrack system.
Gifts made to Glenhope should be tax deductible (per IRS tax code section 170), but you will want to confirm with your tax advisor. We will furnish a form acknowledging your contribution. Some corporations match donations, so I would encourage you to investigate that possibility as well. We received an estimated additional $4,000 - 5,000 last year from matching corporate donations.
Please be sure to pack your child a healthy (nut free) snack every day. We do not go to lunch until 12:00, and students are getting hungry if they do not have a snack before then! We eat snack at 10:15 every day.
Please send in headphones or earbuds that plug into your child's Chromebook. If possible please label them with your child's name. We will be using these in class regularly, and students need to have access to their own pair.
Students will explain how the use of text and graphic features achieves specific purposes.
Students will evaluate details to determine key ideas.
Students will write a response that demonstrates understanding of the text.
Next week we will continue to work on rounding numbers. We will then review everything we have learned about place value. Students will take their unit 1 test on Wednesday.
We will begin Unit 2 on Thursday, This unit will focus on addition and subtraction of whole numbers within 1,000.
Students will predict, observe, and record changes in the states of matter caused by heating or cooling in a variety of substances such as ice becoming liquid water, condensation forming on the outside of a glass, or liquid water being heated to the point of becoming water vapor (gas).
Students will evaluate the contributions of some individuals in shaping communities, expanding existing communities, and building new communities.
