It was another great week in 2nd grade. Thank you for all that you do to help your child be ready and prepared for the week. One of the skills that we are working on improving is being a problem solver. Directions are often given in front of the whole group before an assignment or activity. The teacher models it and posts an example on the board. There are also directions on the board for them to check as well. We take the job of getting our students ready for 3rd grade very seriously, and will often ask students "Have you checked all of your resources first?" or "What could you do to help you get an answer to your question?" or "Is there anything posted in the room that could help you get started?". Anything you can do at home, to help your children become problem solvers on their own is greatly appreciated!
-Please read with or have your child read each day out loud
-Practice the math addition and subtraction facts from 1-20
-Help remind them to charge their ipads each evening
-Check their Take Home Folders for any papers or important information

Thursday, Nov. 7th is the proposed date for our 2nd Grade Field Trip to the Fort Worth Zoo. There IS a chance that this date could be rescheduled due to weather, but we are hoping to attend on that day! We will send out more information about this field trip as we get closer to that date, but please know that if you are planning on volunteering to chaperone this field trip, you will need to have your GCISD background check completed. The process takes several weeks to go through our system, so doing this now is highly recommended! District Background Check
Keep an eye out for more information about Parent Teacher Conferences. We plan to offer several options this year to accommodate families.
Email Update on your child's progress
Phone Conference: Between 2:20-3:00 or after school
In-Person Conference: Between 2:20-3:00 or after school
We hope that offering you these options allows us to speak to everyone in some way about your child. An email with more information and a way to sign up for these conferences will be coming soon. Please think about the option that will fit your schedule best.
You should have received an email to click a form and opt in to emails from the room parent. If you did not receive that or do that yet, please reach out and email the room parent listed below for your Homeroom teacher. This is very important for them to be able to communicate with your directly about all things related to 2nd grade. Thank you!

From our principal, Dr. Griffin:
Our community has always supported our school in so many ways, for which we are very grateful. One of the traditions that has long been in place is our annual Greenback giving campaign, which we use to supplement the budget provided by the district.
Many years ago, Glenhope parents stated their preference for an opportunity to donate rather than having students participate in fundraisers. That has continued to be our practice, and we have been able to supplement classroom and building requests through our community’s generosity. There is now an option for you to donate by using a credit card through the district’s RevTrack system.
Gifts made to Glenhope should be tax deductible (per IRS tax code section 170), but you will want to confirm with your tax advisor. We will furnish a form acknowledging your contribution. Some corporations match donations, so I would encourage you to investigate that possibility as well. We received an estimated additional $4,000 - 5,000 last year from matching corporate donations.
A green note when home with your children in their Take Home Folders this week. This is simply to let you know that we understand that the mornings can sometimes be a challenge for students. Sometimes they are anxious or sad about something at home. Sometimes their allergies are giving them trouble. Sometimes they simply are exhausted and need a little extra love and hugs from us. We get it and want to best support your child. If you find that your child is having one of these mornings, please just send us an email and all that you need to say is "Handle with care". We will get the message and be sure to give your child extra support and understanding that day.
Our planning time is from 2:15 - 3:00pm each day.
