Thank you all for helping your children get the turkeys disguised and back to school. The children are enjoying seeing them in the hall and reading about each turkey's adventure.
This week, we began our unit on Number Sense/Place Value with numbers to 99. During this unit we will be working on building numbers with models, objects and tens and ones. We will practice skip counting, counting forward and backward, comparing numbers using <,>,= and building sets that represent numbers larger or smaller than a given number.
In science we completed our study of different types of soil. We investigated properties of soil such as texture, color, size of particles and uses for various types.
In social studies, we studied characteristics of good citizenship and the role of citizens in a constitutional republic, including the importance of voting. Students will be introduced to the idea of patriotism and how we demonstrate our patriotism through national symbols, holidays, and events.
Language Arts: I can spell words using sound-spelling patterns. I can read high frequency words. I can build my reading stamina. I can write narrative stories about my own life. I can create mental images to deepen understanding. I can make connections to what I am reading based on personal experiences.
Math: I can use concrete and pictorial models to compose and decompose numbers. I can represent numbers in different forms including standard, word, expanded, and picture.
Science: Water properties
Social Studies: I can describe what a good citizen does and how they exemplify good citizenship.
