Language Arts: Grammar & Conventions and Traditional Literature/ Drama
I can identify and compare the characteristics of traditional literature such as folktales, fables, and fairy tales.
I can compare and contrast traditional and fractured fairy tales.
I can discuss elements of drama such as characters, dialogue, and setting.
I can participate in dramatic play using actions, sounds, and dialogue.
I can develop handwriting by accurately forming all cursive letters using appropriate strokes when connecting letters.
I can plan a fractured fairy tale by changing one or more story element of the original tale, and sequencing the main events in my story.
Math: Measurement and Fractions
I can find the length of objects using concrete models for standard units of length such as the edges of inch tiles or centimeter cubes.
I can describe the inverse relationship between the size of the unit and the number of units needed to equal the length of an object such as the longer the unit, the fewer needed and the shorter the unit, the more needed.
I can determine the length of an object to the nearest marked unit using rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, or measuring tapes.
I can determine a solution to a problem involving length, including estimating lengths such as 24 square units.
I can identify examples and nonexamples of halves, fourths, and eighths.
I can explain that the more fractional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part; and the fewer the fractional parts, the larger the part.
I can use concrete models to count fractional parts beyond one whole and recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole whole.
I can partition objects into equal parts.
Science: Plants
I can describe how the physical characteristics of environments, including the amount of rainfall, support plants and animals within an ecosystem.
I can identify roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds of plants and compare how those structures help different plants meet their basic needs for survival.
We found an article titled The Goldilocks Question: How to Support Your 2e Child and Get it "Just Right" helpful and a good read. Check it out below:

Request for LEGO Donations for LEGO Club
We are looking to enhance our LEGO Club by incorporating LEGO bricks into our lessons and activities for kindergarten through second grade.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating any unused or unwanted LEGO sets or pieces that you may have at home. These donations will be used primarily for STEM challenges. No contribution is too small, and any LEGO pieces—whether large or small, complete or partial—would be incredibly helpful.
If you have any LEGO pieces you’re willing to part with, please send them in with your child or feel free to drop them off in the foyer with Lego Club or Mrs. Griffard labeled on them. If you have any questions or would like more details, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity. We’re excited to see the creativity and learning that will come from this project!
Parents interested in telescoping information in the spring or summer can find the district dates at this site.
Classroom teachers are limited in what snacks they can provide here at school to students. Due to the various allergies on campus, teachers can have Veggie Straws or Skinny Pop (both regular flavor) as classroom snacks.
Most students bring their own snacks daily, but occasionally some forget, which is why we have some on hand. As you can imagine, we can tend to run out of snacks if we have a week where lots of kiddos have forgotten to bring a snack. We would appreciate anyone who is able to send in snack-sized bags of Veggie Straws (sea salt) or Skinny Pop. Thank you!
We have the most INCREDIBLE PTA here at Glenhope. Please check out their website to learn more!
As a reminder, we have two snack times during the day. Please be sure to send nut-free (NO PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS) snacks.
Thank you for keeping everyone safe!
Please make sure your child comes to school prepared each day with a charged ipad. Please write names on lunch boxes, water bottles, ipad chargers, and head phones.
Please make sure you complete the District Background Check every year. Forms must be completed and approved before you will be allowed to volunteer at the school or on field trips.
We'll keep this section in here for a while as we find it to be an important one!
We would like to provide additional support at school if your family is experiencing difficulties at home.
If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend please email me with the words "Handle with Care." Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or support during the day.
Most Fridays we will go to the school library in the morning. 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, and should bring books back to check out new ones on Fridays as they finish books.
Thanks for your help in making sure books come back each Friday. Better yet, make a habit of storing the library books in your child's backpack so they are always there!
