Thanks to everyone who volunteered to chaperone our field trip to Parr Park. Everyone had a great time!
In math we are learning about numbers to 120. This is a repeated unit but covers so many important math skills. Students will be writing numbers in different ways, comparing numbers, ordering from least to greatest/greatest to least, identifying odd/even, skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, etc.
In ELAR students continue to work toward mastering first grade high frequency words. They are expected to be able to identify, read and spell over 100 words by the end of first grade. We continue to work on fluency and comprehension in reading, and reading every night is so important. We appreciate everything you do at home to guarantee your child's success!
In Social Studies, our current unit is Studying the Past. This week's topic was how we measure time by using a calendar. It was a good review of our last math unit on time and measurement. It tied in perfectly with the highlight of our week, which was putting eggs in the incubator. We will be watching and waiting closely for the next 19 days to welcome some new chicks. If you haven't seen the chickens in our coop behind the school, 4 of last year's chicks are there now and laying beautiful eggs. Our science unit is Earth's materials, and this week we visited the coop to observe/discuss/compare ways that chickens and humans use some of the Earth's materials in the similar and different ways.
