Breathe!
As crazy as it sounds, we are seven weeks away from the last week of school! We know some students are beginning to keep track of how many days are left. Of course, STAAR is creeping ever closer, but there are so many other fun and far less stressful things on the horizon for your kiddos. We will continue to help our students focus on the fun that lies ahead and feel less anxious about STAAR. As mentioned in previous newsletters, we try hard to help our students understand that the STAAR test is important, but it's not the most important part of 5th-grade.
Throughout the remaining weeks, we want your kiddos to see how much they've grown, so our discussions will highlight their growth and accomplishments. After all, they have nearly an entire school year's worth of hard work and experience to help prove the STAAR test isn't the most important aspect of their final year in elementary school. We look forward to finishing the year strong, and let's keep working to make more memories for your kiddos!

Additionally, we would appreciate you not scheduling any appointments on these days, as students will have to miss class time during the testing window to make up the STAAR testing they missed. If they miss a STAAR exam, they will have to spend an entire day of school when they return to make that test up.

Charged Chromebooks and Headphones For STAAR
Parents, please have your child bring headphones to school starting Monday for our upcoming STAAR reading test. They can keep them in their backpack, but we want to ensure students have access to headphones because what we have in the classroom isn't always reliable, and we have a limited amount available. We would also like to ask you to remind your kiddos to charge their devices for our STAAR tests. We don't want any student to run into issues for the test due to their device not being charged.
Thank you so much for helping us with this!!
New and returning students can register for the 2025-2026 school year.
GCISD is in the planning stages for the 2025-2026 school year. It is important for you to register your child as soon as possible, as it will affect the number of teachers retained on every campus in the district. Thank you!
We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.
Carter/Robertson/Wahpekeche Community Service Log
SO FAR, 5TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE OVER 600 HOURS FOR THIS SEMESTER!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during their community service, please send them our way! We would love to see the work they are doing. We have included some photos we have received so far (to the right). It makes our hearts so happy to see students volunteering in their community!
The 5th Grade Committee is working hard to prepare an amazing graduation for our 5th Grade Gators. A tradition during graduation is for the graduation slideshow to include a baby picture, a kindergarten picture, and a 5th-grade picture of EVERY student. To make that happen, we need help from all our parents.
You can upload the necessary pictures of your Gator in the Google form below. Please ensure you are only filling out ONE form for each student, so mom, if you fill it out, let dad know not to and vice versa.
We will also need you to label each picture with your student's name and what picture it is (e.g., "Sam Cross Baby Picture," "Sam Cross Kinder Picture," and "Sam Cross 5th Grade Picture.") There are 112 5th graders, which means hundreds of pictures, and having them labeled is the only way we can make sure every student is included.
Individual 5th Grade Grad Photos
The second Google form is for group pictures. Parents may send in up to 3 group pictures to include in the slideshow as well. Pictures must have been taken ON campus or at a school-sponsored event (field trip or camp) and must be submitted by April 4. If they do not meet these criteria, they will not be included.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Melissa Cross at 5thcommittee@glenhopepta.org
