Next Week: Module 5 Week 2
READING:
I CAN identify the central idea and tell what they text is mostly about.
I CAN describe how the text is organized.
I CAN identify and describe text and graphic features and explain how they add to a text.
Next Week: We will learn to represent division, using arrays, area models, and standard algorithm to find quotients.
Please try and work on multiplication facts at home. Having those memorized helps multiplying multi-digit numbers. Also, if you find some time over the break, give your kiddos 2-digit x 2-digit numbers multiplication problems to solve. One a day would be great!
This Week : We learned how consumers and producers fit together in food webs within ecosystems. Starting on page 326 of our science textbook, we talked about energy transfer from producers (plants) to consumers (animals/insects/humans/etc) and introduced the recurring pattern of matter cycles / energy flow in science. We also introduced some food web games (teacher approved) that they tried out this week and may play over the break with parent permission! (Also a great way to have your student teach you what we are learning in class!)
Next Week : When we get back from break we will finish up food webs and begin Past Environments and Fossil Evidence, learning how the landscape of Texas and the world have changed over time. Some areas of the land used to be covered in water or jungles and now appear very differently, we will talk abut how and why environments change over time.
This Week : We discussed influential figures of the Texas Revolution including William B Travis, James Bowie, Davy Crockett, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, Placido Benavides, Jose Francisco Ruiz, Juan N Seguin, Enrique Esparza, and Susanna Dickinson. Students spoke about their contributions to the revolution and compared their leadership.
Next Week : When we get back from break we will learn about Texas as a Republic, its successes and failures, important figures (Jose Antonio Navarro, Sam Houston, Mirabeau B Lamar, and Anson Jones) and the Texas Rangers as Texas moved towards statehood.
