Six Weeks To Go!
This week, several students realized there were only six weeks left in the school year. They couldn't believe the end of the year was so close. Time flies after Spring Break! STAAR will take up some of our remaining time, but we will focus more on the days we don't have STAAR tests. This week, we talked with all three classes about their expectations for the rest of the year, including how each student wants the last six weeks to go. I'm happy to say your kiddos all want these remaining weeks to be great!
Part of our STAAR prep includes helping students believe in themselves, especially when they struggle to do just that. Struggling with something often makes finally understanding it more rewarding, and this is a concept we try to teach your kiddos. As we've mentioned in a previous newsletter, helping students avoid becoming so frustrated that learning breaks down is a big part of what we do. This goes hand in hand with teaching students to advocate for themselves and their needs so they are prepared to do this in middle school. These discussions also focus on the importance of balance, and we will continue to help your kiddos work on maintaining their balance until the end of the year. We've got this!

-5th-Grade Science STAAR Test
Please note our STAAR testing dates below. On testing days, Glenhope is closed to visitors so please keep that in mind. Additionally, we would appreciate you not scheduling any appointments on these days, as students will have to miss class time during the testing window to make up the STAAR testing they missed. If they miss a STAAR exam, they will have to spend an entire day of school when they return to make that test up.

Charged Chromebooks and Headphones For STAAR
Parents, please have your child bring headphones to school starting Monday for our upcoming STAAR reading test. They can keep them in their backpack, but we want to ensure students have access to headphones because what we have in the classroom isn't always reliable, and we have a limited amount available. We would also like to ask you to remind your kiddos to charge their devices for our STAAR tests. We don't want any student to run into issues for the test due to their device not being charged.
Thank you so much for helping us with this!!
New and returning students can register for the 2025-2026 school year.
GCISD is in the planning stages for the 2025-2026 school year. It is important for you to register your child as soon as possible, as it will affect the number of teachers retained on every campus in the district. Thank you!
We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.
Carter/Robertson/Wahpekeche Community Service Log
SO FAR, 5TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE OVER 600 HOURS FOR THIS SEMESTER!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during their community service, please send them our way! We would love to see the work they are doing. We have included some photos we have received so far (to the right). It makes our hearts so happy to see students volunteering in their community!
