Please note: we will not be sending out a newsletter on Friday, October 25th, as we will be recovering from our trip to Camp El Tesoro. This week's newsletter will cover any important information/dates over the following two weeks.
We are so close to our trip to Camp El Tesoro, and we are excited! We have included a packing list below, which is also located in the packet linked below.
Please make special note of these things:
Your child will need three bags: their backpack, a luggage bag, and a trash bag with their pillow and sleeping bag/bedding.
Please put an additional trash bag inside the original trash bag. When we get to camp, we assume most students will rip through the original trash bag and need one for their items coming home.
Be sure to label all of their bags with their name (first and last) and cabin name. We suggest using duct tape and a permanent marker. Students were given their cabin names this past week, but feel free to email if they don't know them.
Your child's backpack should include #2 pencils (mechanical is best - no sharpeners in the woods!), a water bottle (no pop-up tops), a flashlight (with good batteries), sunscreen, insect repellent, and a rain poncho. Next week's forecast for Granbury, TX, looks good, but you never know! We will give students a Camp El Tesoro notebook to put in their backpacks the morning we leave for the trip.
Please arrive at school on Tuesday morning on time. Students need to drop their luggage and trash bags (with bedding inside) in the gym. Please use the signs in the gym to place your child's bag with the correct cabin name.
Students will need to keep their backpacks with them. Please have them bring those to class.
If you plan to walk your student into school to drop their luggage off, you must sign in at the front kiosk before you do so. Please arrive early enough to be able to do that. If you have signed in, you are welcome to wait outside, out back across from the playground, to see us off. When the motor coaches arrive, we will need help loading the luggage and bags from the gym to the motor coaches. We plan to depart school promptly at 8:30 a.m.
As a reminder, students are not allowed to use electronics at camp. If you need to contact your child, you can email us or call Camp El Tesoro (the number is located in the information packet and in our newsletters).
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you have!

**We spy some really fun items up for bid at the Fall Fest - such as a two-hour video gaming experience with Miss Hayes, a Pokémon party with 5th-grade teachers, and the opportunity to "Rule the School!!"**
The book fair this year was scheduled for the week of October 21st - October 25th, which is the week we are going to camp.
Please note: if your child wants to participate in the book fair, they will need to plan to make their purchases on Monday 10/21 or Friday 10/25.
We aim to meet with each of you to discuss whether your child is struggling at school or not! We have created a Sign Up Genius (linked below) for you to sign up for a conference. Teachers have a professional development day next week on Mon (9/23). We have been told that we can schedule parent conferences in the morning. Additionally, we have been given a half-day sub on Tuesday, 10/1, to do additional conferences during the school day. The remaining conferences are mostly Tuesdays and Thursdays during our conference time (11:20-12:00) for the remainder of the year.
We have blocked out only two days a week for conferences because we typically have intervention meetings, team meetings, committee meetings, etc., on other days. If you look at the Sign Up Genius and find that no date or time works for you, please let us know, and we can organize with you 1:1.
We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.
