GRAMMAR:
Module 4 Assessment Friday, November 15th
Next Week: We will review Unit 3 to prepare for our unit test.
Unit 3 - Fractions Assessment - November 8th.
This Week : We learned about the inherited and acquired traits of organisms and the differences between them. Inherited traits are those passed down (leaf size and shape, hair and eye color) while acquired traits are those influenced and changed during a lifetime (haircut, scars, heat damage to plants, etc).
Next Week : We will continue our inherited and acquired traits lessons, extending to the cacti and succulents that we are studying this unit. We will identify common traits of plants, and use magnifying/microscope lenses to observe the internal structures of succulents. We will have our chapter 9 test over structures/functions of plants & inherited and acquired traits of organisms on Friday, November 8th. If you want to study/look over materials at home to prepare you can use McGraw-Hill chapter 9, pages 286-310.
This Week : We continued our exploration and settlement unit by learning about the Mexican War of Independence from Spain and how that influenced the land that would become Texas. We completed a diagram comparing Mexican and Spanish governments and why the people of Mexico wanted to leave the Spanish empire.
Next Week : We will review and finish our exploration and settlement unit, culminating with our test on Thursday, November 7th.
“Life is a Movie” Poster Contest
Every Glenhope student is invited to participate in a poster contest for Red Ribbon Week! Posters will be due on Thursday, October 31st and will be handed in to Mrs. Canafax.
Beginning on Friday, November 1st, all students will vote for the poster they believe best represents the messages shared during Red Ribbon Week. Voting will conclude on November 8th. There will be one winner from each grade! Winners will be announced during morning announcements by Friday, November 15th. Winning posters will remain on display as a reminder of the topics covered during Red Ribbon Week. Winners will get a certificate and a small prize!
Poster Requirements:
There is no minimum poster size, but posters cannot be larger than 22x28. Standard size paper is fine!
You may draw a picture or you may design one digitally and print it at home – the choice is yours! If you choose digital, you must submit a printed copy to be eligible for the contest.
The poster must somehow relate to the theme “Life is a Movie”
The poster must reference at least THREE healthy habits that can help you have a bright future. Remember, healthy habits include not just food and exercise, but also the topics we will focus on during Red Ribbon week: Teamwork, dreams, gratitude, choices, and community. Talk about these ideas with your family!
Write your first and last name, grade level, and homeroom teacher clearly on the back of your poster
Be creative! Submit your poster to Mrs. Canafax by Thursday, October 31st.
