SCAMPER a pumpkin
5th Grade - Power of Yet Presentations
Glue A Shoe
The first graders finished their castles this week and are practicing for their presentations. They reviewed attributes of 3-D shapes and analyzed how many shapes they used to build their castles. After working on our presentation skills, we will start our new unit on Authentic Research. We will first look for a way to improve our campus then develop a plan and solution.
Second Grade
Second Grade GT LEADers rocked their race car challenge! 100% of the small groups successful completed their challenge. The students were assessed on their ability to incorporate three parts from a regular car, one from a race car and the four wheels must rotate and roll down a ramp. It was so awesome to see the problem solving going on. Students were also evaluated on their presentations skills. We talked about strengths and areas to work on for every group.
Third Grade
Students became experts at an aircraft of their choice and created a presentation to go along with their research. They will present their findings and final products next week. After students completed their research and practiced for their presentation, they started a "Mission to Mars". Small groups were "selected" to complete a mission to visit Mars! It will be fraught with dangers, but hopefully they will survive the trip. Every group will start with 30 health points and will need a total of 100 health points to return to earth. Hope they are all successful!
Fourth Grade
The 4th graders finished their monument and presented. Students were evaluated on their product and presentation skills. They then got into the holiday spirit by getting to SCAMPER a Pumpkin. The activity is to teach students to look at things from a different point of view, textend the imagination, value the uniqueness of ideas, and to form one-of-a-kind ideas. They loved this project!
The fifth grade scholars completed their presentations and "Glue A Shoe" project. The "shoe" project had students chose a shoe and then come up with a clever play on words. Ask your student about what they designed! Now we are onto Independent Research. First up? Choosing a topic and coming up with an essential question incorporating Depth & Complexity.
