Turkey Protection Squad
Last week first graders brought home one of our favorite projects. We are helping the turkeys stay safe leading up to Thanksgiving. We read the book Turkey Trouble . In this book, the turkey uses creativity to go undercover and avoid the farmer who is looking for a Thanksgiving meal. Students will use the same creative ideas and materials at home to "disguise" their turkeys. At school they will write about their turkeys and display the writing along with the turkeys in the hall. It makes for a fun and engaging gallery walk closer to Thanksgiving.Ā The note below is attached to the turkey with the due date for additional reference.

This week, we continued working with data analysis. We have 1 more week of T-charts, tallies, data collection and constructing graphs. We graphed, generated questions and were able to answer some questions from other classes using their graphs in the hallway.Ā
In reading, we learned about compound words, created some compound words and looked for them in our texts. Next week, we will do some fun Halloween stories but still focusing on our curriculum expectations. Mrs. Griffard, our GT teacher, has organized a fun grade level activity for us next week as well.Ā
In social studies, we studied characteristics of good citizenship and the role of citizens in a constitutional republic, including the importance of voting. Students will be introduced to the idea of patriotism and how we demonstrate our patriotism through national symbols, holidays, and events.
