Becoming Active Listeners!
Listening has been a recurring topic these last few weeks; in Mr. Wahpekeche's class, students responded to the question: "Why can listening be hard?" The answers ranged between sometimes the information is boring, the person speaking isn't my friend, I'd rather talk to my friends, and sometimes I'm too tired to listen. The approach we've taken is to discuss with them how listening requires stamina, similar to being able to sit and read for an extended amount of time. Listening is part of the growth we've discussed since the beginning of the year. We've emphasized how growth is the most critical aspect of their journey. We will continue to push your kiddos to help them grow in all subjects, including strengthening their ability to be active listeners. We will also emphasize the power of feeling heard thanks to active listening. This will foster growth, improve our confidence, and build a stronger community.
We continue to be grateful for this community we've built throughout the year and look forward to what lies ahead.

The 5th Grade Committee is working hard to prepare an amazing graduation for our 5th Grade Gators. A tradition during graduation is for the graduation slideshow to include a baby picture, a kindergarten picture, and a 5th-grade picture of EVERY student. To make that happen, we need help from all our parents.
You can upload the necessary pictures of your Gator in the Google form below. Please ensure you are only filling out ONE form per student, so, Mom, if you fill it out, let Dad know not to and vice versa.
We will also need you to label each picture with your student's name and what picture it is (e.g., "Sam Cross Baby Picture," "Sam Cross Kinder Picture," and "Sam Cross 5th Grade Picture.") There are 112 5th graders, which means hundreds of pictures, and having them labeled is the only way we can make sure every student is included.
Individual 5th Grade Grad Photos
The second Google form is for group pictures. Parents may send in up to 3 group pictures to include in the slide show as well. Pictures must have been taken ON campus or at a school sponsored event (field trip or camp) and they must be submitted by April 4. If they do not meet these criteria, they will not be included.
If you have any questions please reach out to Melissa Cross at 5thcommittee@glenhopepta.org

We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.

SO FAR, 5TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE OVER 590 HOURS FOR THIS SEMESTER!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during their community service, please send them our way! We would love to see the work they are doing. We have included some photos we have received so far (to the right). It makes our hearts so happy to see students volunteering in their community!
