Next Week: Module 8 Week 1
Reading: Next week in reading we we will read informational and argumentative texts. We will discuss author's purpose and ideas and support.
Writing: Next week in writing we will work on extended constructed responses. We will focus on answering a prompt, making a strong claim, finding supporting evidence, and giving reasoning for our evidence. Students will complete an ECR and then edit and revise it using the STAAR writing grading rubric.
Grammar: Contractions with not, using negatives, and avoiding double negatives
Next Week: We will work on solving problems using the following measurement units length, volume, mass, and time intervals. We will also determine a formula needed to solve area and perimeter.
Please try and work on multiplication facts at home. Having those memorized helps multiplying multi-digit numbers and division.
This Week : We started our next chapter, Earth's Processes and Resources (page 182-188 on McGraw Hill). We explored weathering of rocks and Earths surface, the slow process that breaks materials into smaller pieces. We compared the weathering effects of wind, ice, and water on soil samples, and researched rock tumblers and how they utilize weathering to smooth and round out rocks surface.
Next Week : We will extend our knowledge of weathering (breaking of rocks/materials) to explore erosion and deposition, the movement of those broken materials and where they end up after they erode. We will conduct a case study on weathering/erosion from animals and other living sources.
This Week : We learned about mid-19th century Texas including Reconstruction post-war. This newspaper included Andrew Johnson's presidency post-Lincoln, Economic Challenges for Texas, Constitutional Changes, and Immigration to the US. We completed an assignment about the constitutional changes that followed the civil war to give rights to newly emancipated people.
Next Week : We will learn about the Red River war, Native American influence on Texas, and the growth of the cattle industry. This will include cattle drives, important ranches, and influential cowboys as well as the landscape and economy of Texas changes.
Thank you to everyone who has sent in supplies! These are a few items we could still use more of in the classrooms to make it through the rest of the year. Thank you!
