We are finding our groove in the swamp with each day and week that passes. These past two weeks, our focus has been the To-Do feature in Canvas and helping your kiddos stay on top of their work. You may have noticed grades populating in Skyward, and we have been talking to our students about the dreaded snowball effect of incomplete or missing work. When this happens, it can feel like that dream of running down an endless hallway, and we don't want your kiddos to become overwhelmed by work piling up. So, we will begin providing a daily checklist for all students (getting them to use it is a work in progress) and telling them to check their to-do list during our GatorAid block. Awareness is how we find our groove and stay there; together, we learn to swim with the current.

-Camp El Tesoro Chaperone Notifications
Picture day is Monday, September 16th. These are the pictures in the yearbook, so please send your child to school in clothes you would be okay with in the yearbook!
We are celebrating International Dot Day on Monday of next week. Dot Day is celebrated worldwide and originated from the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. The book encourages students to think outside the box and persevere through struggle. We will be reading the book to students on Monday (as well as discussing the theme) and encouraging students to wear clothing with dots to school if they would like.
Next Friday, all chaperones will receive an email stating their application status. We hope to get it to you by 5:00 p.m. We want to thank everyone who applied and appreciate your willingness to volunteer your time to help us. If, for some reason, you don't receive an email notifying you of your chaperone status by 5:00 p.m., please reach out to Miss Hayes (christina.hayes@gcisd.net).
Camp El Tesoro has two forms that every participant is required to fill out and sign. Those were emailed out to 5th-grade parents on Monday. We have linked them below for you. Please note: we need these forms completed and returned by Friday, September 20th.
Participant Release & Parental Authorization
For your reference, we have also included other Camp El Tesoro resources you may need:
We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.
Classroom teachers are limited in what snacks they can provide to students at school. Due to the various allergies on campus, teachers can have Veggie Straws or Skinny Pop (both regular flavors) as classroom snacks.
Most students bring snacks daily, but occasionally, some forget, which is why we have some on hand. As you can imagine, we tend to run out of snacks if we have a week where many kiddos forget to bring a snack. We would appreciate anyone who can send in snack-sized bags of Veggie Straws (sea salt) or Skinny Pop. Thank you!
