Wait, the 3rd Nine Weeks is Almost Over?
Spring Break will arrive in three weeks, and with it comes the close of our 3rd Nine Weeks. So, we are creeping ever closer to the final nine weeks of the year. We have told your kiddos the last nine weeks always seem to fly by, and they are talking more and more about middle school, including asking which level of their core classes they should take. There is still some nervousness surrounding the transition to middle school, mostly when they think about the increase in student size. We are reminding them to maintain a growth mindset and avoid spinning the idea of more students into a negative. Luckily, they still have a few months of elementary school and the summer to grow comfortable with starting fresh in middle school.
One common phrase you've read in our newsletter throughout the year is how proud we are of your kiddos. This is still true now, and our goal remains to help them increase their confidence through the end of the year. It is often difficult for our students to see how much they've grown, so we find moments to talk to them about their growth and how proud we are of them. There is something magical about the way students smile during these conversations. In addition, we will continue to instill in our students a sharper focus on effort and learning from our mistakes rather than needing their grades to be perfect. We want them to focus on the journey more than the ending because the journey is when we are learning the most. Our hope is this will serve them well next year and beyond.

As many 5th graders are working on volunteer hours for this semester, we wanted to share this opportunity with you! Mrs. Cohen is doing the lemonade stand fundraiser again this year for UTSW Cancer Center on Sunday, March 2nd. Below are the links for shifts and supplies if your child is interested in helping out!
We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.
Carter/Robertson/Wahpekeche Community Service Log
SO FAR, 5TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE OVER 550 HOURS FOR THIS SEMESTER!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during their community service, please send them our way! We would love to see the work they are doing. We have included some photos we have received so far (to the right). It makes our hearts so happy to see students volunteering in their community!
