FIRST DAY of SCHOOL PICTURES...
Parents are welcome to walk their child/ren into their classrooms on Monday morning if you would like to take a "second first day of school" picture. Bring your id; you will need to sign in at the kiosk in the front vestibule. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time. We do ask that you don't stay after the picture; we are trying to avoid tears once mommy and/or daddy leave!
WHAT A BUSY WEEK...
We have had so much fun learning the rules and routines in kindergarten. We worked on writing our names with only the first letter capitalized, followed by all the other letters lower case. It is important that you continue to practice this at home; it is a hard habit to break! In math, we started to work on developing number sense. We built sets of objects, practiced counting to 50 (100 is our goal for the end of the year) and counted backwards from 10 to 1(counting back from 20 to 1 is the goal for the end of the year.) In science, we learned what a scientist is and does and in social studies, we read stories that helped us understand that everyone is the same, yet different and we are all special and unique.
PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL to YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER...
We are happy to announce that we have finalized our class lists! It has been fun getting to know all the children and we feel that we have successfully found the best fit for all our students. We are ready for a wonderful year of learning and growing together. We ask that you please email your child's teacher (email addresses are above) so that we can create an e-mail contact list for each class. Please add any other email addresses if you would like us to send class information and updates to additional family members. In the email, please include one word to describe your child's week. Thank you for your help!
GREEN FOLDERS...
Students have been taking home green "Take Home" folders every day. Please be sure to empty the folder daily and go over any work with your child, especially if there is something that they had difficulty with.
On Monday students will have a calendar stapled in their folders. Your child will get a stamp everyday for making good choices - the color of the stamp does not matter. If your child had a difficult day, we will write in his/her folder to let you know. It is important for you to discuss this with your child. There is no need for you to initial the behavior sheet daily, unless it was written in.
If you need to send in any notes to the teacher, please put them in your child's folder and let your child know that they're in there and that he/she needs to give it to his/her teacher.
BREAKFAST & LUNCH CODES...
Each child is assigned a code that they will use to get breakfast and/or lunch from the cafeteria. Last week, we sent home a small paper with a picture of a keypad on it along with your child's lunch code written on top. Please help your child memorize this number; it will help expedite the line, allowing students more time to enjoy their lunch. It would also be helpful if you and your child look at the lunch menu ahead of time, so s/he can make a choice quickly.
SNACK...
Our lunchtime is at 10:30, therefore, you may want to send in one HEALTHY, NUT-FREE and utensil - free snack from home for your child to have in the afternoon. Please do not send in any juice boxes or other drinks, besides water. Due to allergies and other health concerns, we will not be allowed to provide any snacks or allow the students to share snacks. Sending in a snack is completely optional, however students get very sad if they don't have one. If you are sending a snack, please pack it separately from their lunchboxes so it doesn't "accidentally" get eaten at lunchtime! This happened quite a few times this week! Thank you for your cooperation.
GREEN TAKE HOME FOLDERS
Students have been taking home green "Take Home" folders every day. Please be sure to empty the folder daily and go over any work with your child, especially if there is something that they had difficulty with. Next week, there will be a calendar inside the folder. Your child will get a stamp everyday for making good choices - the color of the stamp does not matter. If your child had a difficult day, we will write in his/her folder to let you know. It is important for you to discuss this with your child and talk about what s/he can do to make the next day a better day. There is no need for you to initial the behavior sheet daily, unless it was written in. If you need to send in any notes to the teacher, please put them in your child's folder and let your child know that they're in there and that s/he needs to give it to his/her teacher.
