Keep On Keepin' On!
Sometimes, the most challenging thing is to keep moving forward, especially when we feel overwhelmed by obstacle after obstacle. We know students can feel overwhelmed at times and bogged down by frustration. Some students have even spoken to us about wanting perfect assignments (and some grades). Unfortunately, pursuing perfection often blinds us to our progress despite not being perfect. This is true for students and adults, and this pursuit usually brings more stress. Please know we do not seek perfection from your kiddos, but we do what we can to help them see their progress throughout the year.
We consistently talk to our students about their effort being the most critical aspect of their academics. We ask students to give 100% effort on any given day. Of course, there will be days when they don't feel great because they are developing a cold or are distracted by something unrelated to school. These days and moments teach us how to keep on keepin' on despite how unmotivated we feel. This is when we remind our students how proud we are of them, talk to them about their progress, and show them how far they've come. The goal is to build stamina and strategies for giving 100% even though we may feel less than 100%.

Thank you to everyone who donated supplies, volunteered, and attended our Valentine's Party. The kids had a wonderful time!
As many 5th graders are working on volunteer hours for this semester, we wanted to share this opportunity with you! Mrs. Cohen is doing the lemonade stand fundraiser again this year for UTSW Cancer Center on Sunday, March 2nd. Below are the links for shifts and supplies if your child is interested in helping out!
We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.

Also, if you snap photos of your child during their community service, please send them our way! We would love to see the work they are doing. We have included some photos we have received so far (to the right). It makes our hearts so happy to see students volunteering in their community!
