Our Student Council is putting on a fundraiser called Teacher Grams. Every day before school next week, students can purchase a Teacher Gram for $1.00 and write a note of gratitude to their favorite teachers. Students are encouraged to spread the love to as many teachers as they would like. Teacher Grams will be displayed outside the teacher's classrooms throughout the week.
When: Monday November 18th - Friday November 22nd
7:15 - 7:35 am in the front hallway
This week, we began with a wonderful Veteran's Day program to honor and remember all those who are serving and have served for country.
In math, we continued our unit on Number Sense/Place Value with numbers to 99. During this unit, we are working on building numbers with models, objects and tens and ones. We will practice skip counting, counting forwards and backwards, comparing numbers using <,>,= and building sets that represent numbers larger or smaller than a given number. We are also learning how to represent numbers in standard form, picture form, word form and expanded form.
In reading, we continued to work on story structure and studying character traits in various stories. Students enjoy making personal connections to the readings. We are continuing to work on writing during our literacy time as well as through journal writing. We continue to focus on proper usage of capitalization, punctuation, spelling and adding meaningful details. We wrapped up Module 4 and will begin Module 5 "Now You See It, Now You Don't."
In science we began our unit on bodies of water. We investigated and compared the properties of puddles, ponds, streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans, including color, clarity, size, shape, and whether it is freshwater or saltwater.
In social studies, we began learning about important American celebrations, holidays and cultural traditions. Students learn about symbols, mottos and anthems and how these things are important to communities.
We are looking forward to going to the Perot Museum on Monday!
