It has been wonderful getting to know your kiddos, and we are looking forward to watching how much they will grow this year. The start of each year always brings some nervousness about what's to come, but we've taken time to do what we can to calm nerves and build excitement. Our goal with the 5th-grade newsletter is to keep you informed about what's happening in our classrooms each week and upcoming important dates. We are honored and excited to help your kiddos grow and become more enthusiastic about math, science, social studies, reading, and writing. It's going to be a great year!

We understand that students sometimes have appointments during the school day. We've had a few parents ask what is the best time based on our schedule, so we thought we would share with you all:
10:45 - 1:00 would be perfect for students to be pulled for appointments. We are doing targeted small group lessons, specials, recess, and lunch during this time.
From 7:45 - 10:45 each morning and 1:00 - dismissal, students will miss class time if they are pulled (which we know is sometimes unavoidable)
Thank you to everyone who came out to Parent Information Night on Thursday. Communication with parents is an integral part of our student's success. If you couldn't attend, we've attached the slideshow we went over last night. Let us know if you have any questions!
If you were unable to attend the Camp El Tesoro Informational Meeting, we have put all of the information we shared below, which includes a slideshow and a packet. The actual packet was sent home with your child today (Friday) if you didn't attend last night. At the back of the packet are important health forms and permission slips that must be filled out. Let us know if you have any questions!
Camp El Tesoro Dietary Restrictions Form
If you are interested in being a chaperone for our Camp El Tesoro trip on October 22 - 24, please fill out the application linked below. Please be sure to read all of the chaperone information/expectations at the top of the form before deciding to fill it out.
At this time, we are not asking potential male chaperones to fill out an application. Instead, male chaperones will need to fill out this form. If we see that more male chaperones have expressed interest than we have space for, we will then reach out and ask them to fill out an application. Responses are due by Friday, August 30th.
Chaperone applications are due on Friday, September 6th.

Students have been working in Canvas and seem to be improving in their navigation skills and in terms of checking and submitting assignments.
We suggest you do the pairing feature in Canvas, which allows you to "observe" your child's classes to see their daily lessons and assignments and allows you to see what they have or have not turned in. We have placed a link below that will show you how to become an "observer" in your child's Canvas account.
We know we aren't perfect. Please click the link below and give us feedback on the first two weeks of school. We'd love to improve, and we'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks in advance!
We will work throughout the year on building your child's growth mindset. To learn more, watch the video below.
