A favorite 2nd grade tradition is Disney Day on Friday, May 9th! We will have Disney themed learning activities and a virtual field trip to the parks. It's such a fun day! In order to make Disney Day as memorable as possible, we are asking for some help.

Classroom teachers are limited in what snacks they can provide here at school to students. Due to the various allergies on campus, teachers can have Veggie Straws or Skinny Pop (both regular flavor) as classroom snacks.
Most students bring their own snacks daily, but occasionally some forget, which is why we have some on hand. As you can imagine, we can tend to run out of snacks if we have a week where lots of kiddos have forgotten to bring a snack. We would appreciate anyone who is able to send in snack-sized bags of Veggie Straws (sea salt) or Skinny Pop. Thank you!
New and returning students can register for the 2025-2026 school year.
GCISD is in the planning stages for the 2025-2026 school year. It is important for you to register your child as soon as possible, as it will affect the number of teachers retained on every campus in the district. Thank you!
Language Arts: Nonfiction Writing and Reading
I can draft chapters for my book and design my own text features (illustrations, diagrams, timelines, venn diagrams, flow charts, t-charts, etc.) to complement and enhance my writing.
I can explore the characteristics of non-fiction books, including text structure, print and graphic features, and author’s purpose.
I can identify the most effective parts of nonfiction text that engage the reader, and use these concepts when I design my own non-fiction book.
Math:Addition and Subtraction Review With Regrouping
I can generate and solve word problems for a given number sentence.
I can use my knowledge of place value to regroup in addition and subtraction problems into the thousands place.
Science: Life Cycle of a Butterfly
I can investigate and record unique changes that insects (such as butterflies) undergo during their lifecycle
Social Studies: Map Skills
I can identify and use information on maps and globes using basic map elements such as title, cardinal directions, and legend.
I can identify major landforms and bodies of water, including each of the seven continents and each of the oceans, on maps and globes.

Request for LEGO Donations for LEGO Club
We are looking to enhance our LEGO Club by incorporating LEGO bricks into our lessons and activities for kindergarten through second grade.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating any unused or unwanted LEGO sets or pieces that you may have at home. These donations will be used primarily for STEM challenges. No contribution is too small, and any LEGO pieces—whether large or small, complete or partial—would be incredibly helpful.
If you have any LEGO pieces you’re willing to part with, please send them in with your child or feel free to drop them off in the foyer with Lego Club or Mrs. Griffard labeled on them. If you have any questions or would like more details, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Please make sure your child comes to school prepared each day with a charged ipad. Please write names on lunch boxes, water bottles, ipad chargers, and head phones.
Please make sure you complete the District Background Check every year. Forms must be completed and approved before you will be allowed to volunteer at the school or on field trips.
We'll keep this section in here for a while as we find it to be an important one!
We would like to provide additional support at school if your family is experiencing difficulties at home.
If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning or weekend please email me with the words "Handle with Care." Nothing else will be said or asked. This will let me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or support during the day.
Most Fridays we will go to the school library in the morning. 2nd graders can check out two books at a time, and should bring books back to check out new ones on Fridays as they finish books.
Thanks for your help in making sure books come back each Friday. Better yet, make a habit of storing the library books in your child's backpack so they are always there!
