Be on the lookout for an email from the district about Play it Safe. The email contains detailed information about the Play it Safe program. In order for your child to view the presentation, you must follow the instructions in the district email. The email asks you to OPT IN or OPT OUT of Play it Safe. The email also references a Play it Safe preview, which was hosted live on January 14th but is now available for you to watch at any time HERE. Glenhope students who have opted in will view the presentation during Specials time on March 28th. If you did not receive the email or if you have any questions after reading the email/viewing the previews, please reach out to at lauren.canafax@gcisd.net
WHAT a BUSY WEEK!
It's been quite a week... there have been so many different illnesses among students and staff! We're always telling the children to wash their hands frequently with soap and water while singing the ABC song, cough into their elbows and sneeze into a tissue. Please be sure your child is getting enough sleep and help remind them of these tips to stay healthy!
In math, we have been learning about financial literacy which includes ways to earn money, knowing what skills are necessary for different jobs and the difference between money earned vs. money received as a gift. We learned about saving and spending, as well as giving to charity. We continue to work on identifying coins by name and how much each coin is worth. This is HARD for many students; please practice with your child at home. In literacy, we continued to learn about short vowels and the sounds they make. We had to identify the vowel sounds in the middle of words and build and read three-letter cvc words.
February Character Trait: HONESTY
When students visit for Guidance time in February, they will focus on HONESTY. Students will learn that honesty is "being truthful in what you say and do." We will review scenarios where students may be tempted to be dishonest and will discuss how telling the truth in that scenario would ultimately be best.

Request for LEGO Donations for LEGO Club
We are looking to enhance our LEGO Club by incorporating LEGO bricks into our lessons and activities for kindergarten through second grade. We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating any unused or unwanted LEGO sets or pieces that you may have at home. These donations will be used primarily for STEM challenges. No contribution is too small, and any LEGO pieces—whether large or small, complete or partial—would be incredibly helpful. If you have any LEGO pieces you’re willing to part with, please send them in with your child or feel free to drop them off in the foyer with Lego Club or Mrs. Griffard labeled on them. If you have any questions or would like more details, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity. We’re excited to see the creativity and learning that will come from this project!
REMINDERS
*PLEASE be sure your child reads the four books in his/her book bag daily and returns the bag every Friday. It is so important for children to read every day. The more they read the better readers they become.
*In addition to having your child practice reading our sight words, it is also important for them to practice writing these words. At this time of the year, every student should be able to write a few sentences using sight words and stretching out sounds to make other words. For example, "I will go to the prc." or "I can see a brown dog."
*PLEASE send a jacket for outside recess. We go outside at 11:00 and it is often chilly at that time, even when the high temperature is 70 degrees for the day.
*PLEASE put your child’s name in all jackets, sweaters, hoodies, hats, gloves, water bottles, etc. If they misplace something, we can easily get it back to them.
100 Days of School
We celebrated the 100th Day of School on Tuesday by participating in some fun activities involving the number 100! Thank you to to everyone who donated a snack.
Valentine's Party
We will be having a Valentine's Party on Thursday, February 13th at 1:30. Parents are invited to attend, however siblings may NOT attend. Thank you to our room parent volunteers who have already been hard at work preparing for it. We will be exchanging cards at our party. A list of students in our class went home in your child's green folder on Monday. You may cut out the names and tape them to the cards or write the names on the cards. Please send in a card for each child in the class and return them Monday, February 9th. We will make a valentine holder in class; you will not need to make one at home.
Shhhh... it's a surprise!
The kindergartners will be taking a field trip to the Fort Worth Zoo on Friday, April 11th. The students do not know, so please don't say anything just yet! We will be needing chaperones to join us for the day, however siblings may not tag along. Please be sure to fill out your background check if you would like to go. Our amazing PTA will be paying for this so there is no cost for the students, however chaperones will have to pay. Further details and a permission slip will be sent home soon.
BOOK BAGS
All students need to keep their reading bags (and library books) in their backpacks when they are not reading them.
There are some students who are not reading their books at home and are having difficulty keeping up in class. Please help your child become a confident and fluent reader by having him/her read everyday. It is so very important.
