We had another great week in 3rd grade! Our character trait for this month is Gratitude. This week students have been sharing what they are grateful for.
We hope to see you at the Veteran's Day Program on Monday! 3rd Grade will be going to the program at 9:15. Students are encouraged to wear red white and blue!
The local store D20 Comics & Games is working with us so our students can create their holiday flier!
They are supplying our students with tons of rewards, including Pokemon TCG booster packs and collectibles. Students should have already brought permission slips home, and may return them if they want to participate. Participation is NOT mandatory!
Please contact Dexter Suarez (dexter.suarez@gcisd.net) if you have any questions! Thanks and good luck to all students who participate!
We had so much fun "math-or-treating" on Halloween! Thank you so much to everyone who sent in treats for us to be able to do this activity. Scroll through to see pictures of students working hard on solving math problems and earning their treats!
All elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to submit original artwork for the cover of GCISD’s official holiday greeting card. This year’s theme is "Show Others Kindness." Three student designs—one each from the elementary, middle, and high school levels—will be selected and sent out on behalf of the GCISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz. Cards are sent to community leaders, area businesses, organizations, and other school districts. For more information, click the link below:
Mrs. Walker is preparing for the next 3rd grade book project, and is in need of empty cereal boxes. We have collected 54 boxes so far! We need 47 more for all of 3rd grade! Thank you to everyone who has sent in some, we appreciate it so much! Please keep them coming!
What We're Learning!
In Module 4 Stories on Stage we will be learning all about dramas. We will be reading fairy tales, folk tales, and tall tales to identify the key details. We will become playwrights by creating our own fairy tale scripts, making props, and acting out our scripts.
Students will retell a drama in ways that maintain meaning and order.
Students will identify the author’s message or theme.
Students will distinguish theme from topic.
Students will identify and demonstrate understanding of fairy tales, folk tales, and tall tales.
Next week we will begin learning about division! Students will be able to determine the number of objects in a group when it is split equally.
*Example: if there are 40 objects split into 5 groups, students will use division to explain that each group has 8 objects.
Students have been working on memorizing their multiplication times tables. Quiz them on some multiplication facts! We have specicically been working on memorizing x0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10
3.12 Organisms and environments. The student describes patterns, cycles, systems, and relationships within environments. The student is expected to:
3.12C describe how natural changes to the environment such as floods and droughts cause some organisms to thrive and others to perish or move to new locations.

Repeated Information:
We have enjoyed meeting with you all and sharing all of the great things that your student has been doing this year! If you have not signed up for a conference and would like to, here is the link to sign up. If you have any questions about your child's progress this year, please feel free to reach out to their homeroom teacher.
Please pack one NUT FREE snack for your child every day in their backpacks.
Please help up by reminding students to charge their Chromebooks each night. It is very important that their Chromebooks come to school fully charged each morning. We use these for classwork daily as well as taking tests. When Chromebooks are not charged, it becomes a disruption to student learning for the day. We appreciate your help with this!
