Four More Weeks!
It doesn't seem real to have four weeks of school left! But time is flying by as we approach May. We've made it through our STAAR tests and can see the finish line in the distance! Soon, we will celebrate your kiddos reaching the end of their elementary journey and taking the next big step in their lives into middle school. We are proud of everything they have accomplished. Throughout the year, our students have demonstrated resilience in the face of challenges and perseverance when they might have doubted themselves, ultimately growing more than they even realize.
Over the last four weeks, we will visit Parr Park, hold Field Day, play kickball with our students, and conclude the year with fifth-grade graduation. We aim to focus on finishing strong to go into summer feeling great. We still have opportunities for creating memories, achieving accomplishments, and fostering growth. We will discuss what your kiddos are most proud of this year and what they look forward to next year. We hope they all feel good about their time in 5th grade and are better prepared for middle school. We also hope you are seeing the growth we have in your kids. They always seem much older by the end of 5th-grade versus the beginning of the year. It has been a true pleasure for us to be their teachers!

If they miss a STAAR exam, they will have to spend an entire day of school when they return to make that test up.

Charged Chromebooks and Headphones For STAAR
Parents, please have your child bring headphones to school starting Monday for our upcoming STAAR reading test. They can keep them in their backpack, but we want to ensure students have access to headphones because what we have in the classroom isn't always reliable, and we have a limited amount available. We would also like to ask you to remind your kiddos to charge their devices for our STAAR tests. We don't want any student to run into issues for the test due to their device not being charged.
Thank you so much for helping us with this!!
American Historical Figures Wax Museum Project
Dear 5th Grade Parents,
We are excited to announce an upcoming project for our 5th-grade students: the American Historical Figures Wax Museum Project! This project encourages students to explore and research significant historical figures or events that have shaped our country.
Note: Most of the work will be done in class during school hours.
Project Details:
Research Paper: Each student will complete a research paper about their chosen historical figure or event, focusing on important contributions, life events, and historical significance.
Tri-Fold Project: Students will create a tri-fold display that highlights their findings. This will visually represent their research and include images, key facts, and important dates. Students are asked to bring a tri-fold from home for this project. Please reach out to Mrs. Robertson or Mr. Wahpekeche if you are unable to provide a tri-fold for your child.
Dress-Up Presentation: On the presentation day, students will dress up as their chosen historical figure or represent their selected event. This is a fun way to connect personally with their research and engage with their classmates.
Presentation Date:
Parents are invited to view the presentations on the morning of May 16th at Glenhope (THIS DATE COULD CHANGE). This will be an excellent opportunity to celebrate your child’s hard work and creativity!
If your child would like to bring materials such as borders or letters from home for their tri-fold project, they are more than welcome to do so! We encourage students to use creativity and personal touches to enhance their presentations.
If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support!
Warm regards,
Christi Robertson and Mr. Wahpekeche
We have a goal this year for all 5th-grade students (and teachers) to complete 12 hours of community service outside of the school day by the end of the year (6 hours per semester). Students who achieve 6 hours by December 13, 2024, and an additional 6 hours by May 9, 2025, will receive a party to celebrate their achievements. When your child completes community service, please be sure they are logging their time in the Google Form linked below. We have hung a tracker poster (pictured here to the right) in the 5th-grade hallway to track the hours completed as the school year progresses. We cannot wait to see the tracker fill up!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during community service, please send them to us! We would love to see the work they are doing.
Carter/Robertson/Wahpekeche Community Service Log
SO FAR, 5TH GRADE STUDENTS ARE OVER 650 HOURS FOR THIS SEMESTER!
Also, if you snap photos of your child during their community service, please send them our way! We would love to see the work they are doing. We have included some photos we have received so far (to the right). It makes our hearts so happy to see students volunteering in their community!
