As always, thank you for allowing us the opportunity to learn and grow with your child. This week we enjoyed the beautiful weather. The character trait this month is empathy. Students have met with our counselor Mrs. Canafax to discuss what empathy means and how we show it to our family and peers. We are working on understanding how other people feel and are affected by our words and actions.
-Please read with or have your child read each day out loud
-Practice the math addition and subtraction facts from 1-20
-Help remind them to charge their ipads each evening
-Check their Take Home Folders for any papers or important information
Language Arts: I can make connections to myself, other texts or society from stories we read. I can discuss the author's purpose using text evidence. I can write complete sentences with a capital letter, punctuation, a subject and a predicate.
Math: I can locate and label whole numbers on a number line.
Social Studies: I can learn about different types of resources. I can understand and use resources for Conflict Resolution. Students will be studying about the Constitution on Tuesday for Constitution Day!
Science: I can identify whether or not an item is a solid or a liquid.
Keep an eye out for more information coming soon. Students came home with an order form for you to order pictures online. All pictures will be done before lunch and recess. Students are welcome to bring a change of clothes to change into after pictures are taken.
You should have received an email to click a form and opt in to emails from the room parent. If you did not receive that or do that yet, please reach out and email the room parent listed below for your Homeroom teacher. This is very important for them to be able to communicate with your directly about all things related to 2nd grade. Thank you!

From our principal, Dr. Griffin:
Our community has always supported our school in so many ways, for which we are very grateful. One of the traditions that has long been in place is our annual Greenback giving campaign, which we use to supplement the budget provided by the district.
Many years ago, Glenhope parents stated their preference for an opportunity to donate rather than having students participate in fundraisers. That has continued to be our practice, and we have been able to supplement classroom and building requests through our community’s generosity. There is now an option for you to donate by using a credit card through the district’s RevTrack system.
Gifts made to Glenhope should be tax deductible (per IRS tax code section 170), but you will want to confirm with your tax advisor. We will furnish a form acknowledging your contribution. Some corporations match donations, so I would encourage you to investigate that possibility as well. We received an estimated additional $4,000 - 5,000 last year from matching corporate donations.
A green note when home with your children in their Take Home Folders this week. This is simply to let you know that we understand that the mornings can sometimes be a challenge for students. Sometimes they are anxious or sad about something at home. Sometimes their allergies are giving them trouble. Sometimes they simply are exhausted and need a little extra love and hugs from us. We get it and want to best support your child. If you find that your child is having one of these mornings, please just send us an email and all that you need to say is "Handle with care". We will get the message and be sure to give your child extra support and understanding that day.
Our planning time is from 2:15 - 3:00pm each day.
