The Ascent of Money Episode 1: From Bullion to Bubbles
The Ascent of Money is a series of documentaries produced by the BBC and PBS based on the Harvard Economist Niall Fergusson's book The Ascent of Money, a Financial History of the World. The purpose of this series is to explain basic ideas in economics by describing the historical roots of the modern economy. Episode 1 of this series, titled From Bullion to Bubbles describes the rise of modern banking system and the stock market. The show takes the viewer from 16th century Peru to Medieval Europe to France on the eve of the French Revolution.
