The Protestant Reformation, 1519-1688

I will be hosting a live class at 10:00 am on Thursday, 2-2 on the topic of the Protestant Reformation. Europe, 1519-1688: In an effort to reform corrupt practices within his beloved church, the young German Monk Martin Luther would unwittingly divide the thousand-year-old Roman Catholic Church and Christendom into two camps and unleash an era of religious warfare that would ultimately claim millions of lives and alter the fate of every nation in Europe and the European nations in the New World as well. This age of religious conflict and change that historians call the "Reformation" or the "Protestant Reformation" came to affect every institution of Western Civilization from religion to economy to government as each nation and each community made the decision to embrace Luther's reforms or not and whether to tolerate the new church that arose or not. Even though the Reformation happened in Europe, this religious movement also had a significant effect in America since the Pilgrims came here to create a perfect Protestant Church. This class will provide an overview of the era and focus on some of the key events and players in a movement that altered the religious landscape of the world forever. Project Credit: Attendance in this live class will fulfill the requirements of your live class assignment for this unit.
