Unit Overview:
You will be tested on writing skills 3-4 times on the SAT exam: the essay, 2 writing sections, and writing skills may appear again in the "experimental" section. The student essay is pretty self-explanatory, and on the multiple choice writing questions, students are required to identify and correct errors in sentences and paragraphs. To prepare yourself for this section of the SAT Exam, read through the SAT Writing Skills lessons and work through the Writing Skills Practice Questions.

The tips listed in the Barron's study guide are practical, easy to understand, and will REALLY help you! Read through as many of them as you can before taking the practice questions. Keep these in a folder or binder and make sure to review the day before you take the SAT test.
One last thing: Don't worry about missing questions. Missing questions is a great way to learn, because it often burns the correct answers into your minds. Don't forget to take a look at the answer explanations, which can be found in the answer key document. Good luck on this section of your exam preparation!
IMPORTANT: There are 56 questions on the Writing Skills Practice Questions document, but this is a slow exam. You are given 30 minutes to complete this section of the SAT exam, but it will take you every second of that time! Keep this in mind as you take this assessment.
2. SAT Essay Materials
Directions: Read through the Writing a 25 Minute Essay lesson then go through the SAT Graded Essay Packet. The lesson gives you tips on how to write essays quickly, and the graded essay packet will show you what SAT graders look for in essays.

3. Additional Practice
The best way you can help yourself in prepping for the exam is to test, test, and test. In the middle of all this testing, look at your mistakes and learn from them, then test again to see if your score goes up. After going through the Writing Skills Questions lessons and practice questions presented here, why not open up some practice exams and focus on Writing Skills questions?
The essay is always Section 1, and Writing Skills questions can be found in sections 4 and 10 on the SAT exam. If you want additional practice, open up some practice exams and only do those sections.
