American Imperialism, 1846-1914

I will be hosting a class at 1:00 pm MT on Wednesday, 2-1 on the topic of American Imperialism. America, 1846-1914: A rapidly growing America each day receives thousands of immigrants in its ports and each year adds more states to its roster, causing many to believe that it is "Manifest Destiny" that America grow to be a great world power and take its place among the industrial nations that dominate the globe at this time. During the Era of Imperialism (1820-1914), the foreign policy of all the imperialistic powers was ruthless and aggressive, and the US was no exception to this rule: In 1846 America declared war on Mexico in order to claim a massive chunk of the North American Continent, in 1898 we annexed Hawaii, went to war with Spain and claimed many of its possessions for ourselves, and in 1903 we engineered a revolution in Latin America to sign a treaty with newly independent Panama giving us land for a canal. I could go on...This class will provide an overview of the age of American Imperialism and highlight some of the key events of the era.  Project Credit: Attendance in this live class will fulfill the requirements of your live class assignment for this unit.
