Unit 1 Essay: Comparative Government

In order to get credit for this project you must write an essay on ONE of the following topics:
Option A: Comparative Governmental Types
You learned about different types of government in this unit as well as some of the basic philosophical ideas of modern political thinkers. Consider the standards of measuring government like justice, liberty, efficiency, and basic rights that many of the political theorists used to define the duties of government, and write a five-paragraph essay of 600 words or more that compares the constitutional democracy type of government to the authoritarian/totalitarian model of government. Which government delivers more to its citizens? Which provides the greatest degree of liberty? Efficiency? Prosperity?

Option B: Comparative Governmental Unions
In addition to different types of government, nations also choose different types of unions (how their local and national governments relate to each other) that each have advantages and disadvantages. In order to determine how these arrangements differ, write an essay of 600 words or more that lists the advantages and disadvantages of the unitary, confederate, and federal systems of government.
