Eyes on the Prize Episode 1: Awakenings (1954-1956)

The Eyes on the Prize series is the award-winning PBS documentary covering the Civil Rights Movement. This video clip describes the beginning of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and how its organizers tapped a 26-year-old Martin Luther King Junior to lead the fledgling movement that would ultimately become successful. Individual acts of courage inspire Black Southerners to fight for their rights: Mose Wright testifies against the white men who murdered young Emmet Til, and Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama.
