The New World, 1519. The Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortez lands on the coast of Mexico ostensibly on a trip to gather more slave labor for Cuba, but this bold adventurer has a different plan: conquer or die. This action packed film describes the extraordinary story of how 500 Spanish soldiers under Cortez managed to conquer a nation of millions. This is a documentary that I first started using in 2002, and I'm happy to resurrect this one. One of the most interesting aspects of this film is that it does a great job showing both how the Spanish react to the Aztecs and how the Aztecs react to them, and how this interplay helped hasten the Aztecs' defeat.
