The Indian Independence Movement, 1915-1950

I will be hosting a live class at 10:00 am MT on Wed, 5-16 on the topic of the Indian Independence Movement. South Africa, 1915: Young Indian lawyer Mohandas Gandhi is assaulted and arrested by a South African police officer for his protest against the Apartheid system practiced in that nation. When the British judge rules than Indians no longer have to carry passports, Gandhi scores his first victory and the Indian Independence movement gets its greatest champion. Over the next 30 years, Gandhi and the Indian National Congress use noncooperation and various passive resistance methods (that will later be copied by other nationalists and also by the Civil Rights Movement in the US) to gain independence from the world's greatest colonial power. This class will cover the important events and ideas from this movement.  Project Credit: Attendance in this live class will fulfill the requirements of your live class assignment for this unit.
