The Civil War Episode 1: The Cause
Ever wonder exactly how the Civil War began? How we allowed ourselves to get to such a place as a nation? The Cause is Episode 1 of Ken Burns' widely acclaimed 9-part series on the Civil War. The series first premiered on PBS in 1990 and 40 million viewers tuned in the week it played, making it the most successful and popular documentary ever produced at the time. This episode describes the decades leading up to the war and the causes of the war itself. The film also takes the viewer through the first year of the war, concluding with the 2nd Battle of Manasses, commonly known as the Battle of Bull Run.
