The Civil War Episode 7: Most Hallowed Ground

1864, Part 2: Most Hallowed Ground is Episode 7 of Ken Burns' widely acclaimed 9-part series on the Civil War. The series first premiered on PBS in 1990 and 40 million viewers tuned in the week it played, making it the most successful and popular documentaries ever produced at the time. This episode describes the second half of the year 1864, a time when the pace and tempo of battle was near constant. Despite an ominous beginning of the year for Abraham Lincoln, America held a presidential election despite the Civil War, and in the end Lincoln was re-elected and vindicated. This film documents the Fall of Atlanta and Sherman's March to the Sea, both of which were deathblows to the Confederacy. By the end of 1864, the Confederacy was defeated and all that was left was to destroy the remnants of Lee's once mighty army. Unfortunately, the only place I could find this documentary displays it in two parts. I apologize for this, and the first part worked perfectly for me while I had to refresh the 2nd part a couple of times to get it to work.Â
