Vietnam, a Televised History Episode 6: Tet, 1968

Vietnam Conflict, 1968Episode 6 of Vietnam, a Television History documents the year of 1968 in the Vietnam War. The year 1968 was the year of the fiercest fighting in the Vietnam War. By 1968, with no measurable end to the war in sight, the US stepped up its participation in the Vietnam Conflict in order to break the will of the North Vietnamese. With things looking increasingly desperate for the South Vietnamese government, they too stepped up their operations to root out internal enemies and to destroy the guerrillas ability to make war, and both China and the USSR stepped up their aid to North Vietnam, the recipe for increased brutality and intensity to the Vietnam Conflict. Add to this mixture an aggressive Vietcong assault on South Vietnam during the Tet New Year, and you have a perfect firestorm. The North Vietnamese Tet Offensive in 1968 was to the Americans what Gettysburg had been to the Confederates during the Civil War: it convince the US that Vietnam was an un-winnable war, and we began from this point to seek a way out.
