Hi All,

The final 2 Episodes of the Civil War Series:

The Civil War Episode 9: The Better Angels of Our Nature

"O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done; The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won; The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting, while follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring: But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red, where on the deck my Captain lies, fallen cold and dead."

Walt Whitman, O Captain! My Captain, a tribute to Lincoln.

1865 and Beyond: The Better Angels of Our Nature is Episode 9 of Ken Burns' widely acclaimed 9-part series on the Civil War. The series first premiered on PBS in 1990 and 40 million viewers tuned in the week it played, making it the most successful and popular documentaries every produced at the time. This episode begins with the assassination of Lincoln and the final surrender of remnants of the Army of the Confederacy. This film also discusses the implications and significance of the Civil War and concludes by documenting the lives after the war of all the major characters. I watched every one of these movies as I loaded them in for my students in the Civil War Class, and when I got to this one I was sad to see the end.
