Civil War Unit 3 Live Class: The Collapse of the Southern Economy

The Collapse of the Southern Economy

I will be hosting a live class at 1:00 pm MT on Thu 11-5, on the following topic: The Collapse of the Southern Economy. By the end of 1863, there was no chance of the Confederacy winning the Civil War. Grant's capture of Vicksburg gave control of the Mississippi to the Union and split the South in two, and Lee's defeat at Gettysburg caused Britain and France to refuse to recognize the South, but the greatest threat to the Confederate cause by the end of 1863 was the collapse of the Southern economy. By the end of this year, the Southern economy was in ruins and the Confederacy would find it harder and harder to field troops to fight the war. In this class, we'll go over the details of the Confederate financial collapse and students will walk away with a good idea of the financial state of the South at the close of 1863.  To get into this class please click the following link: Trehal's Live Office/Classroom
