China from the Inside: Freedom and Justice

China from the Inside is a 4 part documentary produced by PBS and the BBC that describes the society and government of modern China. China is a unique nation politically and economically because since the 1970's the Chinese Communist government has intentionally moved away from Socialism as an economic system and increasingly embraced free market capitalism, yet not free democratic processes that often go hand-in-hand with capitalism. Episode 4 of this series, Freedom and Justice, focuses on Chinese civil rights and the judicial system in China. For an American used to broad civil rights and a fairly accessible judicial system, this episode highlights just how antithetical to our system China really is.
