Unit 3: Mathematics

Unit Overview:

The Barron's PSAT study guide devotes three chapters to the mathematics section of the exam: The first chapter serves as an introduction to the mathematics section of the exam, the next suggests tactics and strategies for this section, and the last gives you an overview of the various components of the mathematics section: arithmetic, fractions and decimals, percents, ratio and proportions, averages, algebra, solving equations and inequalities, word problems, geometry, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, solid geometry, coordinate geometry, misc. topics, sequences, interpretation of data, and functions.

To prepare yourself for this section of the exam, read through the introduction link, the tactics and strategies (and do the practice exercises), and then read through only the other mathematics sections that you are struggling with.

3. Math Skills Reviews

Directions: The math skills reviews are broken down by skill category. Select the link for the skill you want to review, and read through the document. After finishing the lesson, do the practice questions found at the end of the document. Because there are typically less then 10 practice questions, you will have to create your own answer sheets for this. Send your graded answer sheets for each review to your instructor.
