Ken Burns' The West Episode 1: The People

The West, 1500-1805: 

The West is an 8 part series done by Ken Burns in an effort to tell the story of the settlement of the Western United States and American treatment of Native Americans in this region. Episode 1, "The People" tells the story of the Native Americans that lived in the West beginning in the 16th century as the first Europeans arrived and ending in the year 1805, when Lewis and Clark had just finished their fateful voyage of discovery.  I include this film because it is an excellent example of the US government's policy in the settlement of the Western United States and its systematic treatment of Native Peoples.
